Electronic, sensor-activated faucets seem like a technological miracle: Place your hand under the spout, and water starts flowing. But their inner workings rely on technologies that have been around for decades, cleverly adapted to a faucet spout. Improved sanitation is the most obvious benefit of touch-free fittings. Because these faucets have no handles, there is no means of spreading bacteria.

This control box acts as the solenoid valve to shut off or open the waterway as indicated by the sensor faucet. This control box is connected in line with the pull down hose. 

A solenoid valve is an electrically controlled valve. The valve features a solenoid, which is an electric coil with a movable ferromagnetic core (plunger) in its center. In the rest position, the plunger closes off a small orifice. An electric current through the coil creates a magnetic field. The magnetic field exerts an upwards force on the plunger opening the orifice. 

An AC adapter, AC/DC adapter, or AC/DC converter is a type of external power supply, often enclosed in a case similar to an AC plug. Other common names include wall wart, power brick, wall charger, and power adapter. 

A battery charger, or recharger, is a device that stores energy in a battery by running an electric current through it. The charging protocol (how much voltage or current for how long, and what to do when charging is complete) depends on the size and type of the battery being charged. Some battery types have high tolerance for overcharging.
